CHARACTER INFO
Name: Yarikh Cassan
Gender: Male
Source: Homestuck (OC)
Canon point: About a sweep into a flourishing kismesis with one Slinti Awondo
Age: About 7 and a half sweeps (16-17 years old)
Colour: #a15000
Chumhandle: argentianVisionary
History: Yarikh's hive is on a grassy plain in a relatively remote part of Alternia--despite the flatness of the land, his nearest neighbours are barely specks on the horizon. Because of this, he has no real offline relationships--even his kismesis is a troll he hasn't technically met in the flesh (she's really awful, though. God, what a terrible person Slinti is. <3<). The sheltered nature of his upbringing was further compounded by his lusus, a large and territorial bison. Thanks to Bisondad fighting off the vast majority of threats to Yarikh's wellbeing, he himself has never really needed to learn to fight--he has a bow, but his experience with it is largely shooting still targets. Very different from actually trying to protect yourself. Again, thanks to his lusus, he's grown up largely vegetarian, a fact that sets him apart from other trolls and also has left him somewhat sickly (they are not really a species meant for the herbivorous lifestyle).
He first started interacting with other trolls at five sweeps, somewhat later than normal. As mentioned, almost all of these interactions have hitherto been online, but he's nonetheless formed several meaningful relationships. Formed and, with one recent notable exception, quickly ended--he's had several matesprits over the past two or three sweeps, but when they realize the difficulty involved in meeting face-to-face, they quickly become discouraged. Similar experiences have befallen him in the other quadrants, until he met his current kismesis Slinti. They got off to an excellent start--he started lecturing her about a point of Alternian history she, as it transpired, already knew--and the distance between them seems to only irritate her further, an arrangement that works very well for all concerned.
He has a few other close friends, none of whom seem interested in romantic relationships at the present time, unfortunately. He mostly spends his days talking to them, reading, or practicing his archery--it's a quiet existence, but one that suits him well enough. He hasn't really had enough experience to know what other options are out there, after all. He does occasionally find himself pining for new things to do though, so it's not surprising he tried out the mysterious game grub that showed up on his desk one day...
Personality: Yarikh is a little distant until you get to know him, at which point he loosens up a little. His communication style definitely leans more toward the "dry", though. He'd like to think it's because he's so ~aloof and cool~ but really he is, well, a little insecure. He worries people don't like him, and more critically, he worries that his prophetic gift will alienate them, especially as he can't control it--what happens if he tries to warn someone about something and they don't believe him? Way easier to just not interact with anyone at all, right? Clearly.
He's not exactly a pacifist (a good way to die, on Alternia), but he's keenly aware of his low position on the hemospectrum and tries not to make waves (oh shit was that a fish pun? hopefully no seadwellers heard). His main goal is to get accepted into the Oraculegionnaires when he is conscripted, and live out his days among others of similar hemocaste and ability. Definitely not the ambitious type. He's into reading history, and a big believer of the maxim that those who don't know it are doomed to repeat it, which means he is prepared to lecture others at the drop of a hat if they seem receptive.
Abilities & physical limitations: No specific physical limitations, but general physical weakness. Not to the extent that there are things he flat-out CAN'T do, but he tires quickly and doesn't have a great lifting capacity. As far as other abilities, he has a minor oracular talent that he unfortunately cannot control--sometimes he will foresee events that have yet to pass. Usually these involve people he knows (this is how he learned what several of his friends look like), but not always.
Appearance: first off, he's scrawny. He has some muscle in his arms from bow practice, but otherwise is incredibly slight. Maybe 5'6" at most (not including hair or horns), no real physical bulk to speak of. He looks...fragile, sort of. Not just his body type but the way he carries himself--he is light on his feet and in general doesn't look terribly well-grounded or sturdy. He has, like all trolls, black hair--his is short but pretty scruffy and layered. It doesn't stick up, but it lies in a lot of different directions on his head and gets a little messy looking below the ears (it goes to a little bit below his jawline in terms of overall length). His face would be round if he ate better, but as is he is a little gaunt looking. Broad cheekbones and a wide jaw, though--you can tell that if he was at full health his cheeks would fill out to match. His eyes are a little sleepy-looking; downturned slightly at the outer edges and sort of heavy-lidded. He has a broad but not unattractive mouth, and a much sharper nose than you'd expect with someone whose other facial features are so soft. His symbol is one of the many alchemical signs associated with silver ( http://0.tqn.com/d/chemistry/1/0/h/S/silver3.gif ) and his horns are symmetrical, medium length (comparable to Kanaya's for canon trolls) and crescent-shaped, the tips curving outward, away from his head.
Notable AU differences from canon, if applicable: N/A
Strife Specibus: bowkind
Prototyping: his lusus (a bison)
Title: Augur of Dusk
In-game abilities: The augur is in many ways a counterpart to the Seer class, but rather than have oracular visions independently, they are gifted the ability to read signs and portents in the world around them. The types of portents they are able to read are shaped by their aspect--in Yarikh's case, portents in the interplay between shadow and light. At higher levels an augur's foretellings become both more accurate and more thorough, and eventually can be called upon at will to answer almost any question.
Planet: Land of Snow and Candles-- A frigid land dotted with candelabra-like trees, soft lights glowing at the end of their branches. The candlelight is almost unnoticeable currently, however, in the harsh unceasing sunlight caused by the Denizen, Apollo. The light reflects off the snow, making the landscape almost unbearably bright, a situation that has caused the seal consorts no end of distress.
RP Sample: Yarikh flipped another page of his book determinedly, pointedly not glancing toward his desk. The Summoner's rebellion ended in ignominous failure, with our glorious Condesce banishing him and all others who dared rise up against her. As a longstanding result of his folly, adult trolls are no longer permitted to reside on the homeworld, instead proving their loyalty by-- ugh, he'd read this so many times before. He tossed the book across the room (Bisondad shooting him a reproachful look from where he was resting) and looked for something else to occupy him. No, NOT that grub. Maybe Slinti was online though...

Well, that was a bust. None of his other friends were showing up logged in either--not that he had many, his chumproll typically only had one or two active names on a GOOD day. What a pain. Yet again, his eyes turned to the mysterious game grub. Bisondad had brought it in from one of his hunting trips--who knows where it came from. Yarikh had been attempting to resist the temptation to plug it in and see what happened for days now, but his resolve was weakening, and with this latest setback (where WAS Slinti, anyway??), well...what was the worst that could happen?
He attached the neuroreceptor cables to the grub's body, then connected them to his husktop and hit the Enter key. In a matter of moments, a startup screen opened.
